Iron is essential for making haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body, and it also supports energy production, immune function, and brain health. When iron levels drop too low, red blood cell production suffers, leading to iron deficiency and, if it progresses, iron-deficiency anaemia.
An iron infusion delivers iron directly into the bloodstream via a small IV cannula, offering a faster and more reliable way to correct iron levels than oral supplements, particularly for people who can't tolerate or properly absorb oral iron. Whether an iron infusion is right for you is determined by your doctor, based on your bloodwork and individual health history.

At IViON Health, we keep the process simple and comfortable from start to finish. To get started, book a consultation with one of our Registered Nurses. They will discuss the requirements for booking an iron infusion and provide information about the treatment, preparation and appointment process.
We review your medical history and bloodwork to confirm whether an iron infusion is right for you. A current prescription and recent blood test from your doctor are required before treatment, if you already have both, we will need a copy sent to our team before your appointment.
Our registered nurse inserts a small cannula and completes the usual pre-infusion checks before we begin.
Your iron is administered by our registered nurse, with close monitoring throughout for comfort and any reaction. The infusion typically takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the prescribed dose
You'll rest with us for a short observation period before heading off, with clear aftercare guidance and follow-up details to take with you.
We believe informed clients make confident decisions. If you'd like to learn more about how iron infusions work, when they're used, and what to expect before and after treatment, healthdirect Australia offers clear, independent information to help guide your understanding

Yes. Before we can go ahead with treatment, you'll need a current prescription and a recent blood test from your doctor. Once you have your prescription, you'll need to have it filled and bring the iron itself along with you to your appointment, along with your blood test results, so our team can review everything and get you settled in for treatment.
In most cases, yes. Most people feel completely fine to drive home after their infusion. That said, if you're feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or generally unwell afterwards, it's best to hold off and arrange a lift instead. If you're ever unsure, it doesn't hurt to organise a lift in advance just in case.
Most people are able to resume their normal day, including work, straight after their appointment. It's quite common to feel a bit more tired than usual for the following 24 to 48 hours, so if your day allows for a bit of extra rest, that's not unusual or anything to worry about.
Prescriptions are compounded by licensed Australian pharmacies and dispensed in accordance with your doctor’s instructions. This allows for individualised formulations prepared to prescription standards.
It's really important to let us know if you've ever had a reaction to iron in the past, or if you have a history of high iron levels, haemochromatosis, liver problems, or thalassemia. The same goes if you're currently unwell or taking antibiotics. None of this necessarily rules you out, but it does affect how and when treatment is planned, so it's best raised with our team before your appointment.
